Fishing in Mansfield

Fishing is available at a variety of Mansfield Parks and open to the public year-round during regular park hours. Ponds are stocked throughout the year with crappie, bluegill and catfish which can be kept if meeting the legal size requirement, otherwise please follow catch and release protocol for smaller fish. Twice a year, the ponds at Oliver Nature Park, Rose Park and Chandler Park are stocked with Rainbow Trout; information on those dates and details can be found on the Texas Parks & Wildlife Website.

Fishing Rules & Regulations

All fisherman ages 17+ must have a valid Texas fishing license to use any of the ponds in Mansfield's parks. A license can be obtained at Wal-Mart or any sporting goods store for a small fee. Learn more about the license here.

All guests are asked to be respectful of the environment when fishing; remove any trash and discarded line or supplies. 

All state fishing regulations apply; see posted signs at the parks or the Texas Parks & Wildlife website for more details.

Fishing is the perfect sport to help children develop an early love of nature and outdoor adventure. Whether it becomes a lifelong passion or a casual hobby, it's never too soon to start! 

Oliver Nature Park offers a variety of classes to help kids learn and develop fishing skills.
-Intro to Fishing for ages 3-16; beginner course with rods and worms included
-Junior Angler for ages 5-16; longer, more detailed lessons with Junior Angler certificate of completion
-Intro to Trout Fishing for ages 5-16Y; learn the specifics of bait and strategy for catching Trout

Each spring, Keep Mansfield Beautiful hosts a Kids Fishing Derby as part of their Earth Day Celebration; check their site for more details and watch for registration information.


Kids 16 and under do not need a fishing license, just a buddy to go with them and an afternoon to spend outdoors, enjoying the day!
