2006: Town Park

500 N. Main Street

Town Park is a 26-acre community park in Northwest Mansfield just outside of Historic Downtown that includes many popular features like playgrounds, basketball and volleyball courts and pavilions, as well as a large outdoor amphitheater. It is currently the westernmost trailhead for the Walnut Creek Linear Trail.

Origin

The Town Park property located was donated to the Mansfield Park Facilities Development Corporation in 1994.  Development was funded by a $500,000 matching grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife as well as in-kind and financial donations from Tarrant County, the Rotary Club, Mansfield Chamber and Keep Mansfield Beautiful. Town Park opened on June 23, 2006 with a weekend of live music, movies and community celebration.

Development and Improvement

Phase one of the linear park project, which was planned concurrently with Town Park, opened in 2007 as the Walnut Creek Linear Trail. This established Town Park as the westernmost trailhead of the 1.9-mile connection to Rose Park, Hardy Allmon Soccer Complex  and McKnight Parks East and West.

In 2019, the North Main Street Trail extension was completed. The 12-foot wide lighted trails expanded the trail with a safe path along the Main Street bridge from Town Park to Oak Street, connecting walkers, runners and bikes to Historic Downtown Mansfield.

In 2022, a .35-mile extension of the Walnut Creek Linear Trail was added through Parkland Dedication Ordinance by the Lofts on Main Street apartment developer. That trail heads west from Town Park under the Main Street bridge to a looped path, which also added stairway access to Main Street and the North Main trail extension to Historic Downtown.

Namesake

Town Park’s name was chosen to represent its proximity to Historic Downtown as well as the multi-disciplinary use of the amenities. With something for everyone, it was designed to be a park the whole town could enjoy, a central hub of community activities.
