Juveniles & Minors
The Mansfield Municipal Court of Record has jurisdiction over juveniles (ages 10-16) charged with Class C misdemeanor offenses, including traffic violations and city ordinance violations. The Court also has jurisdiction over minors (ages 17-20) who received citations for violations of the Alcoholic Beverage Code.
Court Appearance
All juveniles are required to appear in open court accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The Court clerks will notify the parent/legal guardian and juvenile/minor of the date, time and place of any and all hearings on their citation(s). Failure of the parent or legal guardian to appear with the juvenile or minor is a separate misdemeanor offense against the parent or legal guardian.
If the parent or legal guardian fails to bring the juvenile/minor to court a separate charge for contempt can be issued.
If the juvenile or minor fails to appear at his or her scheduled hearing, a Failure to Appear charge may be added to each of the underlying violations set for Court. A warrant for the arrest of a minor may also be immediately issued. Warrant fees and the additional fines for Failure to Appear will be added to each violation as well.
Failure of a Minor to Appear
Juveniles who fail to appear or complete their sentence will be reported to the Department of Public Safety. The Department of Public Safety may suspend a juvenile's driver's license or deny the right to obtain a drivers license.
Court Proceedings
All persons entering the court are to be dressed appropriately. Every person shall also obey the court rules and shall conduct themselves in a respectful and courteous manner. The Bailiff will remove any person in violation of the dress code or for being disruptive in court. Cell phones are prohibited and will not be allowed in the courtroom.
