Property & Evidence

The property and evidence seized by the department is stored for safekeeping until it is needed for court, taken to a crime laboratory for processing, returned to the owner or destroyed pursuant to court order or departmental regulations. The responsibility for safeguarding and accounting for the property and evidence falls upon the Property/Evidence Technician.

How to Claim Property

Property is released by appointment only. To make an appointment, contact a Property Technician.

The general policy of the department is to release property to the owner whenever practical, once ownership has been proven regarding the property. Once ownership has been determined and the courts have released said property, the following information needs to be provided to the Property Division prior to releasing said property:

  1. Contact the Property and Evidence Division and schedule a date and time to pick up property.
  2. If possible have police department's service number.
  3. Present valid identification.
