[ARCHIVED] Man House restoration project underway

Ralph S. Man House

The homestead of Mansfield co-founder Ralph S. Man was purchased this year by the City and will soon be a historical museum.

The property, located just west of Historic Downtown Mansfield on Broad Street, will undergo a restoration process over the next several months. Ralph Sandiford ManThe homestead will be under the direction of the Mansfield Historical Museum & Heritage Center and provide visitors with a glimpse of what life was like in Mansfield in the late 1800s. Man began building the home in 1865.

"We believe this property is the perfect compliment to the downtown museum," said Jessica Baber, manager of the Mansfield Historical Museum & Heritage Center. "It will make a great field trip location for students and for visitors to our city who are interested in the history of the region."

The Man House museum will share parking with the City’s new dog park currently under construction and opening in early spring.

The current project includes the restoration of the home and barn, also built in 1865. Future work will include the construction of a visitor’s center and an outdoor amphitheater, as well as the addition of some smaller historical structures.  The new museum is expected to open in late spring 2020.
