Artists for the Earth Contest

ARTISTS for the EARTH_creative writing contest

Mansfield residents are being invited to showcase their creative writing talent while sharing their views of current environmental issues. The contest offers a fun and creative way to raise awareness about the environment and peak interest in taking action.

The creative writing category is the first of three parts of the competition. Two additional categories will be announced at a later date.

Creative Writing - "The Power of the Pandemic Perspective"

  • Written entries should describe how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted individual perspectives on the environment or recycling behaviors.
  • A written entry may include poetry, a short story, article or blog post.
  • Word count is limited to 500 words or less.
  • Written entries are due by 5 p.m. Friday, July 17.

Contest Rules and Details

  • Each contest is themed and entries will be evaluated on the quality of the work, originality and adherence to the theme.
  • Entries will be judged in the following age categories:
    • 11 years and under
    • Ages 12 - 18
    • 19 years and older
  • The contest is open to Mansfield residents. Children under 18 must submit written permission from a parent or guardian.
  • Winners will be notified by Aug. 14. Winning entries will be showcased on the City website and honored at an awards presentation during an upcoming City Council meeting.
  • First, second and third place will be awarded in each age category for each series. 
    • First prize: $100 Visa prepaid card, and environmental swag bag
    • Second prize: $75 Visa prepaid card, and environmental swag bag
    • Third prize: $50 Visa prepaid card, and environmental swag bag
