Whether you are a beginning gardener or a full-time horticulturalist there are all kinds of seed varieties here for you at Mansfield Public Library.
We invite you to check-out seeds and plant them in your garden. After your harvest, we ask you share some of those seeds with the library in order to keep our collection sustainable. The library has a collection from the community and from heirloom vendors. MPL is committed to supporting local environment and sharing seeds through programming and collection development. A Library card is NOT required to participate.
How does it work?
The seed library is located near the front of the library and next to printers in a repurposed card catalog. Simply choose which seeds you would like to "check-out" from the collection and record them on the check-out binder (the check-out binder allows us to know which items to fill next). Please limit to two packets per day per patron.
What do you have?
The library has over 163 different varieties available. These options do change through time and we are open to requests! From daisies, zinnias, to mustard greens and even lipstick peppers the library is always seeking new varieties! The seed library is continuously evolving and we could not be happier to help the community grow one seed at a time!
How many seeds have been shared?
Since the start of the seed library in 2018, Mansfield Public Library has shared over 1,500 seed packets with the community. We additionally shared almost another 600 packets through our outreach events in town whether that was at the Pickle Parade, Earth Day, or even Turkey Palooza. The library wants to see you grow!
Can I bring in donations?
Absolutely! Donations are welcome. In order to become sustainable, donations from your garden are encouraged. Please complete the donation form located by the seed library in order for the library to know the most about the seed. Always choose the healthiest and disease free crops for donations.
