City Council Meeting Recap

A recap of the Oct. 26 regular City Council meeting:

During the 7 p.m. public meeting: 

Proclamations and Presentations

  1. Mayor Cook proclaimed Nov. 28 “Small Business Saturday” in Mansfield and encouraged residents to shop at the city’s small businesses in the historic downtown and all across Mansfield.
  2. Fire Chief Mike Ross presented the Jarrod Brodnax Distinguished Service Award to Mansfield Firefighter Daniel Bell for his lifesaving efforts in June 2020 to rescue a truck driver pinned in a tractor-trailer accident on Interstate 20.
  3. Mayor David Cook presented a city flag to Christal Moore in honor of her late husband, Staff Sgt. Bradley Moore of Mansfield, who died this summer while on a training exercise at Fort Hood.
  4. Parks & Recreation Director Matt Young recognized the members of the park board and the park master plan advisory committee for their work in the adoption of the department 10-year master plan.
  5. Mayor Cook and staff members provided an update on the City’s Veterans Day virtual recognition event being held this week in place of the annual Veterans Day Parade that was canceled this year during the pandemic.

Staff Comments

  1. Parks & Recreation Director Matt Young provided council with updates to the park chapter of the City’s Code of Ordinances for their review.

Consent Agenda

The Consent Agenda was unanimously approved and included:

  1. Approval of the third and final reading of an ordinance amending regulations for vacant buildings and properties.
  2. Approval of the third and final reading of an ordinance amending traffic code regulating no parking zones for historic downtown.
  3. Approval of a resolution authorizing grant application to Firehouse Subs Safety Foundation Program for mass casualty/active shooter response kits.
  4. Approval of a resolution selecting of Komatsu Architects for architectural and engineering services for the Police and Fire Strategic Training project and remodel of the Law Enforcement Center.
  5. Approval of a resolution amending the contract for design services with Wier & Associates for Heritage Parkway westbound lane reconstruction project.
  6. Approval of a resolution entering into a interlocal agreement with Tarrant County for construction of roadway and parking lot improvements at Skinner Sports Complex.
  7. Approval of a special event permit for Hometown Holidays.
  8. Approval of a special event permit for Mansfield Turkey Trot.
  9. Approval of the minutes for the Oct. 26 City Council meeting.
  10. Approval of the minutes for the Oct. 19 special City Council meeting.

Public Hearing:

  1. Council approved the second reading of an ordinance approving a change of zoning from C-2 (Community Business District) to PD (Planned Development District) for single-family residential attached townhomes on 12.6 acres at 1675 N. Main St. The zoning change included specifications on fencing and trees.

New Business:

  1. Council approved a motion to suspend the procedural rules of council and reschedule the regular City Council meeting of Dec. 28 to Dec. 14.
