In April 2021, Mansfield City Council approved a feasibility study to begin preparing for a new multigenerational recreation center and library facility, which was the top priority out of our 2020 Master Plan.
The study, being conducted by the architecture firm Barker Rinker Seacat, kicks off this summer with a series of workshops for a steering committee of residents, staff, council representatives and city leaders. The plan also includes multiple public meetings for all residents to hear more about the project and its goals.
Using industry experts, research, and, most importantly, public feedback, the study will determine what elements should be included in a future facility, such as fitness equipment, indoor aquatics, rental space and more, and begin mapping out an overall style and design framework. This process, which should take 6-8 months, will determine a scope, conceptual images, cost estimates and proposed timeline for the facility. At this time, there is no funding allocated or committed for any steps beyond the feasibility study.
The recreation center project is scheduled to be included in a future bond election that will give voters an opportunity to approve funding to design and construct the facility. The study is expected to be complete by Fall 2021.
Resident participation and feedback will be crucial to making this project successful, and anyone interested is encouraged to attend a meeting to learn more, ask questions and add their feedback to the conversation. Due to the interactive nature of the meeting, it will not be broadcast live but a recording will be available the following day. Future open meetings will be offered throughout the summer, including a virtual Q&A option, but those dates have not yet been finalized. Additionally, an online survey will go live on Tuesday, June 8, immediately following the meeting.
