A recap of the July 26, 2021 regular City Council meeting. 

During the 7 p.m. public meeting: 

Recognition 

  • The Council recognized several Mansfield police officers who recently rescued a 13-year-old Amber Alert victim and arrested her alleged kidnapper. 

Staff Comments

  • Mansfield's Downtown coordinator announced the city's intention to begin a mixed-use development project in Historic Downtown Mansfield. The development will be built on a city-owned, four-acre stretch of land along Smith and Elm streets. 
  • Mansfield's director of planning unveiled plans to rezone portions of Historic Downtown Mansfield in an effort to catalyze growth and development in the area. 
  • Council members were presented with a report detailing the actions and accomplishments of the city's departments during the third quarter of fiscal year 2020-21. 

Public Hearing 

  • The Council approved a specific-use permit for a 7-Eleven convenience store on the northwest corner of East Broad Street and Matlock Road. 
  • The Council passed an ordinance to change the speed limits on sections of Turner Warnell Road, Lone Star Road, South Second Avenue and Pleasant Ridge Drive. The ordinance also adds five school zones for three schools in the Southpointe development and modifies the existing school zone for Erma Nash Elementary. 

Public Hearing and First Reading 

  • The Council passed the first reading of an ordinance approving a zoning change from PR pre-development district, to PD planned development, for professional offices at 1045 Matlock Rd.
