A recap of the Oct. 25, 2021 regular City Council meeting. 

During the public portion of the meeting: 

Proclamation 

  • Mayor Michael Evans proclaimed October 2021 as Code Compliance Month in the City of Mansfield. 
  • Mayor Evans proclaimed Nov. 5, 2021 as Arbor Day in the City of Mansfield. 

Presentation 

  • Council presented Airman Savannah Casas with a folded City of Mansfield flag, a challenge coin and a proclamation in honor of her service in the United States Air Force. Casas is a 2016 graduate of Ben Barber Innovation Academy who recently completed a three-year deployment at Osan Air Base in South Korea. State Representative and former Mansfield mayor David Cook also presented Casas with a state flag. 

Staff Comments 

Action Necessary Pursuant to Executive Session 

  • Council approved a new contract for City Manager Joe Smolinski. 

Consent Agenda 

  • Council awarded a $2.45 million construction contract to RJM Contractors, Inc. for alterations and expansions to the Mansfield Public Library. 
  • Council authorized the Mansfield Police Chief to enter into an agreement with Tarrant County for technical assistance and equipment procurement for remote video magistration services to individuals arrested in Tarrant County.
  • Council approved a special event permit for the Veterans Day Parade and Salute. 

Public Hearing Continuation and Second and Final Reading 

  • Council approved a zoning change on nearly 11 acres of land at Bethlehem Baptist Church, located at 1188 W. Broad St. Mayor Evans abstained from the vote. 

Public Hearing and First Reading 

  • Council approved the first reading of an ordinance approving a zoning change on a 6.5-acre tract of land located near the corner of Country Club Drive and Matlock Road. Mayor Pro Tem Todd Tonore abstained from the vote. 

New Business 

  • Council approved several amendments to the procedural rules of Council.
