The Mansfield Police Department (MPD) is warning residents about a scam that multiple residents have reported in recent days.
The residents told MPD that they were called by someone purporting to be an MPD officer. The caller told the residents they needed to pay a fine for a missed jury duty notice, unpaid citation or another reason. The caller instructed the residents that they would call the residents back from another number to receive payment through a payment application such as Venmo.
MPD is urging residents not to give this caller any money or personal information. MPD will never ask residents for money over the phone or use applications such as Venmo to accept money. The Mansfield Municipal Court only accepts payment through its secure website.
MPD detectives are actively investigating this scam. Residents who need to verify information with the Municipal Court may contact the court by calling 817-276-4700 and selecting option one.
If you experience this scam, you are encouraged to report it to MPD by calling 817-473-0211.
