Bond Election 2022

Posted on: March 25, 2022

[ARCHIVED] Bond Election Proposition A: Veterans Memorial

Proposition A: Veterans Memorial

Proposition A in the City of Mansfield's upcoming bond election calls for $7 million to construct a veterans memorial that is planned to be installed at Julian Feild Park.

The memorial concept was designed in partnership with the Mansfield Veterans Memorial and Tribute Foundation. It is expected to include a memorial plaza and pavilion for events, a tiered amphitheater, a water feature, a monument recognizing all military branches, looped trails and enhancements to the existing Serenity Gardens. There would also be space for quiet reflection along the wooded trail. Additional parking and restrooms would also be included in the project.

The existing playground at Julian Feild Park is planned to be moved to James McKnight Park West. City facilities near Julian Feild Park would be able to provide overflow parking for large events.

With a total project cost of $7 million, the proposed project's anticipated maximum property tax rate impact on Mansfield homeowners is currently estimated to be $0.48 per $100,000 of assessed value per month. That means, should voters approve Proposition A, the owner of a $300,000 home in Mansfield would pay a maximum of $1.44 per month more in property taxes.

If approved by voters, the design and construction of the proposed veterans memorial would take approximately two years to complete.
