Bond Election 2022

[ARCHIVED] Bond Election Proposition E: Miracle League Field

Proposition E: Miracle League Field

Proposition E in the City of Mansfield’s upcoming bond election calls for $5 million to build a Miracle League field.

Miracle Leagues give children and adults with physical and mental disabilities the opportunity to play baseball by removing the barriers they often face in traditional facilities. Miracle League fields are custom-designed, rubberized turf baseball fields that help prevent injuries and accommodate assistive devices like wheelchairs that can be difficult to maneuver on grass fields.

The first Miracle League field opened in Conyers, Georgia, in April 2000. Today, there are more than 320 Miracle League organizations throughout the United States, Canada and Australia, that serve more than 200,000 children and adults, according to Miracle League DFW

In addition to a Miracle League field, this proposed project is also planned to include an inclusive playground, a pavilion, restrooms and open spaces to give league players and their families additional recreational opportunities before and after games.

A location for the proposed Miracle League field has not been determined. If voters approve Proposition E, city planners would have focus group meetings with special-needs families to gather their feedback on locations that could best meet their needs.

With a total cost of $5 million, the proposed project’s anticipated maximum property tax rate impact on Mansfield homeowners is currently estimated to be $0.34 per $100,000 of assessed value per month. That means, should voters approve Proposition E, the owner of a $300,000 home in Mansfield would pay a maximum of $1.02 per month in additional property taxes.
