MANSFIELD, Texas — Five bond propositions totaling an estimated $155.5 million dollars were voted upon by Mansfield voters during the May 7 municipal election.
Of these five projects, Proposition D passed.
Proposition A consisted of $7 million in general obligation bonds to construct a veteran’s memorial at Julian Field Park. Of the votes cast, 54.31 % were “against” whereas 45.39 % were “for” Proposition B.
Proposition B planned to utilize $78 million in general obligation bonds to design and construct a new joint recreation center and library. Of the votes cast, 54.31 % were “against” whereas 45.69% were “for” Proposition B.
Proposition C consisted of $30 million in general obligation bonds to design and construct an approximately 138-acre community park in southwest Mansfield, and an additional $25 million in upgrades to Michael L. Skinner Sports Complex. Of the votes cast, 56.58% were “against” whereas 43.42% were “for” Proposition C.
Proposition D will use $10.5 million in general obligation bonds to complete the Walnut Creek Linear Trail to Mansfield’s eastern and western city limits, and to extend the Pond Branch Linear Trail from Historic Downtown Mansfield to South Main Street. Voters approved proposition D with 51.23% of the votes “for” and 48.77% of the votes “against.”
Proposition E planned to use $5 million in general obligation bonds to build a barrier-free, synthetic-surface baseball facility for players of all abilities. Of the votes cast, 55.35% were “against” whereas 44.65% were “for” Proposition D.
Council placed the five propositions on the May 7 special election ballot following months of discussion among its members and the members of the 2022 Bond Election Steering Committee, and a group of Mansfield residents that recommended capital projects for the Council to consider placing on the ballot. Now that the proposition D has passed, staff will start the design process for the linear trail network expansion. Additionally, the city will review market conditions and assessed valuations of property and other factors to finalize the schedule for bond debt issuance.
