Mansfield Fire is now part of 1-percent of fire departments in the nation to receive the highest rating from the Insurance Services Office.

The Insurance Services Office has upgraded Mansfield Fire’s rating from ISO-2 to the superior ISO-01/1X. The rating is based on a comprehensive review of how prepared a community is to respond to fires.

“Public safety is a top priority for City Council and it is exciting to see our investment in personnel, equipment, training, and facilities pay off in such an honor,” Mayor Michael Evans said. “We want people to sleep soundly knowing that they are safe and when disaster does strike, we have some of the best in the business ready to answer the call here in Mansfield.”

The third-party scores fire preparedness on criteria including emergency communications, the fire department’s abilities and services, water supply, and community risk reduction.

“The new ISO-1 rating is a testament to the meticulous efforts of the men and women in our fire department, who have worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of our community,” City Manager Joe Smolinski said. “This achievement is also an attestation of the superior performance of the city’s water distribution system and the professionals that operate it. I am incredibly proud of the team we have assembled here in Mansfield.”

This top rating shows Mansfield’s commitment to safety, its focus on noteworthy essentials, and the organizational excellence of personnel in fire and water services. The rating can also lead to lower insurance premiums. The new rating goes into effect July 1, 2023.

“This honor reflects the hard work of the men and women in Mansfield Fire,” Fire Chief Mike Ross said. “Even though we’ve reached the top, I want the people of Mansfield to know that we continue to improve fire preparedness, reduce response times, and find innovative ways to keep you safe.”
