The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is scheduled to start replacing the Walnut Creek Drive Bridge in April with the work temporarily closing part of the Walnut Creek Linear Trail.
The project will replace the aging bridge with a new one that keeps the four travel lanes and includes 6-foot sidewalks on each side. The trail connection between Katherine Rose Memorial Park and Hardy Allmon Soccer Complex, which runs underneath the bridge, will be closed for the safety of trail users and workers during construction.
TxDOT expects the replacement to take 10 months. This work is part of a federal bridge replacement project. TxDOT expects traffic impacts and we’ll post updates and information throughout the project.
A detour will be available for a pedestrian crossing over Walnut Creek Drive at Magnolia Street/Rose Park entry. Trail users are encouraged to be aware of posted signs and construction activity, and when possible, seek alternate trail access and routes during this time. Rose Park will not be impacted by the bridge work and will remain open, as will the entire inner walking loop at the park. The construction only impacts the connection from Rose Park to Hardy Allmon Soccer Complex.
