The program goals are to promote awareness of the library and foster a sense of community through reading. The concept began in Seattle in 1998 and has spread across the country into many communities large and small. In April 2020, the Friends of Mansfield Public Library is proud to bring in author John Hart to discuss the book The Last Child. Hart has won many famous awards including:

  • The Edgar Award (Down River and The Last Child)
  • Barry Award
  • Southern Independent Bookseller's Award for Fiction
  • Ian Fleming Steel Dagger Award
  • North Carolina Award for Literature

Mansfield Public Library and the Friends of the Library will be having countless programs during the months of March and April to celebrate and create awareness of the book The Last Child. Join us for the event that starts the celebration and the kick-off of READS 2020 on March 5, 2020 at 6 p.m. at Market Street.  This will be a night of food, music and book lovers! Other activities include; children’s crafts, adult craft projects, book related quilling program, bicycle jewelry making, and even a book discussion!

Lastly, we will be celebrating an evening with the author, John Hart, to discuss the Mansfield READS 2020 book on April 24, 2020 at 6 p.m. at Legacy High School. Be a part of this exciting night!
