Barks & Rec combines the best of Mansfield's Parks with the pups our residents love so much into a unique combination of fitness and furry fun! In the Spring, sign up for a couch-to-5k program with shelter dogs joining you for your weekly training run. At the end of the six weeks, you and your pup will run in the Barks & Rec 5k, held in early April benefiting Mansfield Animal Care and Control. The fun run is open to anyone who would like to join in, either with their own dog or with a dog from an area shelter. After the race, enjoy a festival celebrating our four-legged friends, complete with food, games, shopping and a pop up dog park.
In the Fall, the Barks & Rec Hiking Club brings avid walkers and hikers to Elmer W. Oliver Nature Park, where the shelter dogs get to experience a whole new surrounding and plenty of fun things to sniff and explore. Hikes are scheduled on Saturday mornings and registered individually by the week, so you can participate as often as you like!
Here is a great alternative to going door-to-door. Bring the family and meet your friends at the MAC for a night of games, crafts, snacks, and of course Halloween candy! This carnival-style event will be geared toward children ages 2-6 years old, but all ages are welcome. We will be sure to give your little goblins a frighteningly good time! Boo Bash is held the Friday before Halloween at the Mansfield Activities Center.
The Mansfield Fire Department and its Safety Clowns host this community-wide the first Saturday in October as part of its National Fire Prevention Week observance. With a goal of making learning about fire safety fun, families can visit interactive and hands-on demonstrations that will teach fire safety skills and show kids how to prevent fires in the home. The event also features entertainment, food and family activities.
Mansfield kicks off the holiday season the first weekend in December with a full weekend of fun and entertainment for the whole family. The events begins on Friday night at City Hall with the official tree lighting, visits with Santa, entertainment, food, games and fireworks. The fun continues on Saturday with the Fa La La 5k and a holiday parade in Historic Downtown Mansfield. Saturday night, Mansfield ISD Center for the Performing Arts will be rocking with a special concert benefiting the district cultural arts programs. The festivities wrap up on Sunday with the Tour of Holiday Homes.
The city’s nationally award-winning One City, One Book program is held each April in conjunction with National Library Week. Residents are asked to join together to read the same book during the event. Special activities are held at the Mansfield Public Library highlighting the selected book. It culminates in the annual Mansfield Reads! Evening with the Author event featuring a discussion, Q&A and signing.
Music Alley is a music and arts festival hosted as a partnership between the City of Mansfield and the Mansfield Commission for the Arts. The day-long festival is held in September and includes live music and food from different genres, interactive artist displays, and family-friendly activities.

Kids from across the area gather in Mansfield each July for the Red, White & Rockin Kids' Triathlon, held at Hawaiian Falls Waterpark and Big League Dreams Ballpark as part of our annual Fourth of July celebration. Juniors (6-10Y) start with a 130 meter swim, followed by a 3.1 mile bike ride and half-mile race. Seniors (11-15Y) swim for 200 meters, bike for 6.2 miles and run a full mile.
Mansfield’s annual Independence Day celebration focuses on recreation, rockets and rock n roll. Held at Big League Dreams Mansfield Sports Park, the free event features family activities, live music, food and fireworks. Free shuttles are provided from Mansfield ISD’s Newsom Stadium.
Winter Walk began years ago as a grand opening celebration to the Walnut Creek Linear Trail and has continued as a great, family-friendly way for residents of all ages to come together and enjoy the fresh air and cooler temperatures of the season on a leisurely one mile walk. In 2017, the event was transformed into the Snowman Run, a 5k race geared towards kids and families. The race shirts feature three "coal" buttons, and participants complete the look by adding scarves, hats and more.
Make a racket with the Mansfield Summer Slam Pickleball Tournament at Fieldhouse USA Mansfield in September. Tournament includes a Friday night social and two days of competition including lunch both days and great tournament play for all skill levels. Awards will be given in all age categories for mens, womens and coed doubles teams.
The 99th observance of Veterans Day in the United States will be the start of a new tradition in Mansfield as the city gathers for a Veterans Day Parade. There are veterans working for the schools, the city, as first responders, for private companies and of course retired. This event is a way for them to all come together, share that common bond and see how much the city appreciates their service.
Wisteria Street Market is an arts + crafts fair held at the Mansfield Activities Center every May. Families can enjoy shopping with the arts + crafts vendors, food, free make + take crafts, kids activities, and more!
