Barks & Rec combines the best of Mansfield's Parks with the pups our residents love so much into a unique combination of fitness and furry fun! In the Spring, sign up for a couch-to-5k program with shelter dogs joining you for your weekly training run. At the end of the six weeks, you and your pup will run in the Barks & Rec 5k, held in early April benefiting Mansfield Animal Care and Control. The fun run is open to anyone who would like to join in, either with their own dog or with a dog from an area shelter. After the race, enjoy a festival celebrating our four-legged friends, complete with food, games, shopping and a pop up dog park.
In the Fall, the Barks & Rec Hiking Club brings avid walkers and hikers to Elmer W. Oliver Nature Park, where the shelter dogs get to experience a whole new surrounding and plenty of fun things to sniff and explore. Hikes are scheduled on Saturday mornings and registered individually by the week, so you can participate as often as you like!
The city’s nationally award-winning One City, One Book program is held each April in conjunction with National Library Week. Residents are asked to join together to read the same book during the event. Special activities are held at the Mansfield Public Library highlighting the selected book. It culminates in the annual Mansfield Reads! Evening with the Author event featuring a discussion, Q&A and signing.
Wisteria Street Market is an arts + crafts fair held at the Mansfield Activities Center every May. Families can enjoy shopping with the arts + crafts vendors, food, free make + take crafts, kids activities, and more!
